More About Nutrition...
Your body views food as a drug, with specific
daily requirements in order to function at it's fullest potential. An imbalance of
any of these requirements can leave you feeling tired or hungry. Food is a difficult
drug to "prescribe." You will be given specific guidelines and nutritional
targets. The food journal included with your notebook will become a valuable tool in
developing the skill of having food meet your energy needs without damaging your health.
It will also give Dr. Wells the details she needs to fully assist you. We
realize that food is also social and pleasurable, therefore your eating habits must be
flexible enough to fit into normal life situations. Many patients utilize the
convenience of the prepackaged food available at the clinic as well as
recipes from Dr. Wells Cookbook. Although this is not a required part of your
nutritional plan, you may find these convenient options save you from bad choices when
time is not on your side. Our chefs continuously contribute fantastic recipes to
further assist you. Long after you have reached your weight loss goals, many free
services will remain available to you.
Daily, your body requires a certain amount of
energy from three categories -- fat, protein, and carbohydrates. If you take in an
excess of any of the three, then you will gain weight or have difficulty losing weight.
If you are deficient in any of the three you will be fighting hunger.
We will be introducing you to viewing food as a
"drug", and how to make the food drug work for you. We call this
Nutritional
Medicine. There are several methods that you can choose from to achieve the
same goal. Each of these will be reviewed, then you choose which sounds best for
your lifestyle.
